Tinder Swindler could face PRISON after he was ‘caught using a fake driver’s license in Spain’

Tinder Swindler Simon Leviev could face jail in Spain after an arrest warrant has been issued for the Netflix scammer.

Leviev, born Shimon Hayut, has already served time in his native Israel after being arrested for using a fake passport in Greece.

Today it emerged the 31-year-old was being questioned about using a fake driving license after he stuck his £80,000 Maserati on a Spanish beach on a day out with a mysterious Russian blonde .

He told cops he was a holidaymaker named Michael Bilton and, according to police, produced the fake permit under one of the aliases he is known to have used.

A police officer who specializes in detecting forged documents has identified the fake diamond dealer, who met women on Tinder before scamming them out of millions, as a wealthy Costa tourist after watching the hit Netflix show.

Cops have now asked a court in the southern Spanish port city of Algeciras to reopen a criminal investigation against the man they now know to be Leviev after it opened against Bilton.

It was not immediately clear today whether the outstanding arrest warrant is a worldwide warrant and could lead to Leviev’s detention in his home country and possible extradition.

In February, he was spotted leaving a restaurant in Tel Aviv after being discovered living in a 14-story luxury tower in the Israeli coastal city.

Recent reports have indicated that he is looking to convert his newfound infamy into a Hollywood career.

Leviev, who is believed to be dating Israeli model Kate Konlin, has denied scamming women he met on Tinder out of money and insists he is a legit businessman who made his fortune investing in Bitcoin.

His run-in with local police in the windsurfer’s paradise of Tarifa, just over an hour’s drive from the Costa del Sol beaches popular with British holidaymakers, happened on January 30, 2019.

Officers responded to a call about a Maserati Levante stuck in the sand on a beach called Los Lances Sur.

They found a Russian blonde carrying a £7,500 Hermes handbag and an Israeli carrying a £370 Gucci shirt when they arrived.

Law enforcement sources said yesterday that the Israeli produced a driver’s license in the name of Michael Bilton after he was asked for identification before a tow truck arrived to take the hired vehicle away.

Although cops suspected the document was a forgery, no arrests were made and the couple were allowed to return to Malaga two hours away by taxi after giving police an address in the capital of the Costa del Sol pending an ongoing investigation.

A judicial inquiry into the man posing as Bilton, for alleged forgery and a traffic violation committed while driving his sports car on the sand, has been put on hold after a court summons went unanswered.

He is now expected to be reopened after police discovered his true identity.

Tarifa Police have confirmed local reports that an officer specializing in counterfeits linked Leviev after being advised to watch the Netflix show about him during a recent lesson in Ibiza and contacting a Norwegian journalist who helped expose him.

Tinder Swindler’s use of a fake passport in Greece saw him extradited to Israel in 2019 where he was charged with fraud, theft and forgery.

He was sentenced to 15 months in prison but ultimately only served five months after being released for good behavior.

His criminal career began as a teenager when he used stolen checks to buy a Porsche and pay for a driver training program.

He was charged in 2012 but fled his homeland with a stolen passport before being convicted. Three years later, he was imprisoned for two years in Finland after defrauding women there.

Leviev has not been charged over the two-year-old Netflix scam that featured three alleged female victims who said they were speaking out to protect others.

They believed he was the son of Russian-Israeli gemstone tycoon Lev Leviev, nicknamed the King of Diamonds, but the two men are not related.

One victim, Cecilie Fjellhoy, said she ended up in a psychiatric ward after being cheated out of hundreds of thousands of pounds.

Spanish police have not said whether the Russian woman Leviev allegedly tried to impress in Tarifa the day his Maserati got stuck was Polina Tsarenkova, whom he allegedly dated at the time.

A judicial officer from Algeciras confirms: “An arrest warrant has been issued against the person under investigation. That’s all the information I can provide at this point.”
